Interview with Helen Maroulis Three-time Olympian for Team USA in the Sport of Women’s Wrestling

USI Director Dr. Taylor Holloway interviews Helen Maroulis Three-time Olympian for Team USA in the Sport of Women’s Wrestling.

Q: What do you think are the benefits of a training and recovery center like USI will do for some of our athletes?

A: I would say the huge benefit to having a Sports Institute like this is that it would expose athletes at a younger age how to really take care of themselves and their bodies so they can have longevity in their career and just help overall in their life. I think when you are younger you can get away with maybe doing things the wrong way or unhealthy patterns but if you can get into being healthy from a very young age that will help carry you into the rest of your life, you will have those lessons and those habits instilled in you.

Q: What key habits should young athletes develop to succeed in sports and how do you see USI helping with these?

A: Key habits or tips I would give to athletes at USI is one very first and foremost is to love what you do and be kind to yourself. I think that is something that is needed and one of the harder things for people to do. I could say a bunch of other things like work hard and write down your goals and structure your day but really if you are very kind to yourself, and love yourself you are going to do things that are also loving towards yourself. Which will be having discipline, which will be making the right decisions, which will be eating the healthy foods vs not, or going to bed early versus staying up late. But really i think the root of all that is coming down to being kind to yourself and loving to yourself.

Thank you Helen for supporting USI and thank you to our partners at The Treigning Lab. Good luck in the 2024 Paris Olympics!
